Valley Nature Center Burglarized
October 29, 2011
Over the past few months, Valley Nature Center, 301 S. Border Ave., has been the victim of several burglaries. The most recent, on Saturday, October 29, occurred when burglars pulled off burglar bars from a south window and broke the window pane. Overgrown vegetation helped conceal the criminals as they worked.
Fortunately, they got away with only a wheelbarrow. It is a "True Value," blue in color.

Burglary in Progress-South Kansas Avenue
October 03, 2011
block of South Kansas Avenue and called police. This witness said that the
man first went to the front door, knocked, and when no one answered, went
around to the back. There, the suspect apparently forced open the back door,
went in, and came out carrying a jewelry box.
The homeowner later said that jewelry boxes and jewelry were stolen
in the burglary.
The burglar is described as a Hispanic male, in his early 30`s, 5 feet,
6 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds. He had a shaved head and a thick
mustache. He wore a green shirt and blue jeans. He got away in a newer
model black Chevrolet Malibu, possibly driven by a female. They were last
seen headed south on Texas Blvd.

A surveillance camera at one store caught a picture of 2 males driving a silver minivan, something like an older Nissan Quest van.
Aggravated Robbery in Walmart Parking Lot

The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet, 6 inches, 130 pounds, having short hair, and wearing a long white T-shirt shirt and blue jeans. He was picked up by a blue 4-door car.

CAR JACKING AND AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

WHEN OCCURRED: Friday, September 16, 2011, at about 1:35pm
WHERE OCCURRED: 1000 Hackberry Avenue
La Joya Federal Credit Union, 302 W. Llano Grande
WHAT OCCURRED: At a residence on Hackberry Ave. a lone male approached two
Within minutes, police received information that the La Joya Federal Credit Union had been held up. In this case, two men entered the business, displayed handguns, and ordered the employees to turn
over the money. The men fled north on Cedro Street.
Shortly after 2pm, the carjacked SUV which had been used in the bank robbery was found in an alley at Liberty and Huisache streets. The robbers were nowhere to be found. None of the victims was injured in either robbery.
SUSPECTS: Two Hispanic males, late 20’s to early 30’s, standing
about 5 feet, 6 inches, wearing hoodies (one blue ; one red), and
baggy pants.

B & B Insurance Robbed

B & B Insurance, 1521 N. Texas Blvd., was robbed at knifepoint on Thursday, September 1. At about 5:30pm, the lone female employee was confronted by two men who told her they wanted all the money. They brandished knives to make their point. Once they got the money, they fled out the back door of the business.
Both men are Hispanic males, age 20 -30 years, about 5 feet, 8 inches in height. One man wore sunglasses and a red cap; the other wore a white shirt and blue jeans. The employee was not injured in the robbery.

Robbery at A to Z Liquors

a knife and asked for "the money." This aggravated robbery occurred on Saturday, August 27, about 6:30pm. Once the robber received the cash, he fled south toward the alley and then west.
He then met up with an accomplice, and they drove off in what was described as a light blue car. The clerk was not injured in the robbery
The actual robber is described as older (possibly in his 40`s), standing 5 feet, 8 inches, weighing about 180 pounds. He was wearing a long-sleeved maroon plaid shirt and a Dallas Cowboys cap. He also wore sunglasses.
The accomplice is younger and was initially wearing a Weslaco Panther cut off T-shirt.

Burglary in Southgate Woods

On Thursday, August 25, at least one individual broke a rear window, reached in, and unlocked the back door. By that time the alarm system and the monitoring company had done their job, notifying police. Some damage was done, but no valuables were lost.
If you happened to see a suspicious person in the area at about 9am on Thursday, call Weslaco Crime Stoppers with a description. The burglar`s next target might be your abode. It`s all about "neighbors looking after neighbors."
Arson at City Park
August 19, 2011
Someone set fire to the concession / restroom building at
Weslaco City Park on Friday night, August 19, at about 11:30pm.
The Weslaco Fire Department first responded to a call of palm
trees on fire. As they worked to extinguish that fire, they discovered
that the concession building, too, was on fire.
There had been previous fires at the park on Wednesday, when
the firefighters put out several trash cans which were on fire.
