LOAN COMPANIES BURGLARIZED

     Two loan companies, both located on South Texas Blvd. were hit by a burglar about 4 days apart. The first burglary, on August 15, at AAA Loan, at 530 S. Texas, resulted in a sizable amount of cash being stolen.

In the second burglary, at Bell Financial, 617 S. Texas, the same burglar entered the building through the alley and stole the day`s receipts. The burglar seemed to be familiar with the setup of each company. He also wore a mask to defeat camera surveillance in both cases.

COPPER THEFTS CONTINUE

 The copper thieves are still at it. On Jasper Drive, in Cornerstone Meadow subdivision, at two houses under construction, thieves made off with thousands of dollars of copper wire already installed in the houses. The first thefts occurred on August 4. A few days later, the same houses were hit again, with more wire stolen, along with copper tubing. And this time, they even broke a couple of windows as "icing on the cake."

BURGLARIES IN SOUTHWEST WESLACO
August 17, 2008

   

On Wednesday night, August 13, 5 different vehicles from  the same general area in southwest Weslaco were broken into. One burglary occurred at the apartments at 1120 Valley View; two others on El Jardin St. and La QuintaSt. in the Villas de Amistad subdivision; a 4th burglary on Tangerine St. in Southgate Woods; and the last one on Citrus Drive, south of 18th St., just west of Westgate Drive. Items of significance taken were a .22 caliber handgun and a car CD stereo and speakers. A white Chrysler 300 is possibly involved in these vehicle burglaries.

BURGLARY AT PETE'S DRIVE IN
August 17, 2008

     Sometime during the night of August 8, several men broke  into Pete`s Drive In, 623 N. Airport Drive, entering through the drive in window on the north side of the store. They stole the cash register, candy, chips, and cigarettes.

Murderer Wanted for Cruz's Death

Weslaco police have new information on  the suspect in the murder of Eduardo Cruz, whose bloody body was found at his home on  July 15. The suspect`s real name is Francisco Javier Gonzalez- Rivera. A warrant for capital murder has been issued. The suspect stands about 5 feet, 10 inches, weighs about 170 pounds, and has a medium complexion and numerous tattoos. He is believed to be in Mexico. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Several pictures of Gonzalez-Rivera have become available to police, including a new one taken in a car`s back seat..

ROBBERY AT KENO PARKING LOT
June 20, 2008

In the parking lot behind Keno Cafe, a man was robbed as he sat in his pickup truck. At about 4:45pm, on Friday, June 20, five males approached the man, asking for money.  When the victim said he didn`t have any, one of the males produced a knife and ordered the victim to turn over his wallet. After the victim gave him $16 from his wallet, the suspect proceeded to strike him in the face several times. The group fled in a white Ford Tempo with rust on the sides. The main perpetrator is described as a Hispanic male, between the ages of 18 and 25, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 150 pounds, a shaved head, and a light complexion. TRENCHER STOLEN
June 11, 2008

    An expensive piece of construction equipment was stolen from a job site the night of June 10. The item, a red “Ditch Witch” trencher, valued at $34,000, was removed from the site at 1600 N. Westgate, north of Home Depot. The theft occurred between 5pm and 7am.

BURGLARY AT SEPULVEDA GYM
June 11, 2008

Burglars struck Sepulveda Field House at Weslaco High School the night of Tuesday, June 10. Between 6pm and 8am, one or more individuals made entry to the athletic office and stole a small number of items. There was no forced entry to the building, leading officials to believe that the burglars had a key. Taken were 5-student files, 5-pairs of purple/white gym shorts, and 4-gym tops.

BURGLARY AT WESTGATE VILLAGE
June 06, 2008

 Burglars forced open the door to a mobile home on Canyon Drive, between June 3 and 4. They stole a number of items, including a Sony 27" TV, a Phillips 19" TV, and a TV/VCR combo. They also took a green bicycle from outside the residence. A witness reported seeing a small silver-colored car outside the home.

THEFT OF COPPER
June 05, 2008

A structure under construction was hit by copper thieves between June 4 and 5. The building is located in the 2900 block of N. Westgate on a commercial lot of Quail Hollow North subdivision. Thieves entered the building and removed all the copper tubing that workers had installed. If you have any information about these copper thieves, leave a tip for Weslaco Crime Stoppers.

UPDATE   -   The building under construction on North Westgate was a target a second time on June 10-11. Again, copper tubing was stolen, this time a coil worth $1,500. Crime Stoppers still needs a tip on these thefts.
